Women’s Media Centre (WMC) of Cambodia is Cambodia’s premier non-governmental, non profit media organization working in the country. Provides information and awareness programs of issues affecting Cambodians, specially on roles and women rights. Since 1995, WMC is dedicated to promoting gender equality and women empowerment in Cambodian society.

 

Today, WMC continues to use mass media to promote social change in Cambodian society. The centre, ran by women as a majority, has become a foremost provider of public service broadcasting in the country. Through independent radio, television, video programs, WMC has addressed nearly every issue effecting women in Cambodia. Some of the issues include health, reproductive health, HIV/AIDS, TB, Malaria, trafficking of women and children, drug abuse, leadership, national elections, domestic violence, sexual assault, rape, land disputes and conflict resolution, good governance, decentralization, the rule of law, justice, the environment and poverty.

 

On the 8 March, 1999, WMC launched its own radio station, Women’s Radio FM 102, with the objective of being recognized for its high-quality radio programs and to be respected national and internationally for professionalism and ethical leadership in Cambodia’s media sector. Since 1999, FM 102 has successfully carved out a unique niche in entertainment programming and has become one of the country’s leading apolitical radio stations.

WOMEN´S MEDIA CENTRE

Andalusian Solidarity Development Association (ASAD) is a non-profit, nation-wide Spanish Non-Governmental Organization for Development that uses its human, material, technical and economic resources to change the basic structures that prevent people from managing their lives and developing according to their own principles and values.

 

ASAD was born in November 2005, from the initiative of a group of professionals from Granada (Spain). Since then, the association has undertaken 13 projects with public funds in six countries (Guatemala, Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau, Brazil, Cambodia and Sahara territory) in different areas. It is important to underline ASAD’s experience in the field of audiovisual area, having developed different projects aimed at reinforcing community radios.

 

Some of the projects that ASAD has undertaken are:

 

  • Enhancement of Community Radios in Santiago Island (Cape Verde). 2007-2008. 

  • Capacity-building of the Djan Djan Community radio. Bubaque Island, Bijagós Archipelago (Guinea-Bissau). 2008-2009. 

  • Construction of the Community Multimedia Center of the Djan Djan Community Radio. Bubaque Island, Bijagós Archipelago (Guinea-Bissau). 2010-2011. 

  • Enhancement of the Community Radio of Banlung (Cambodia). In collaboration with UNESCO Cambodia, ASAD has identified and submitted a project to UNESCO Bangkok, to enhance the community radio and create a community media center. 

  • Creation of the Multimedia Center in Community Radio Vos Ponta de Agua. Santiago Island (Cape Verde). 2011-2012.

  • Creation of the Community Radio with a gender perspective un Kratie (Cambodia). 2010- 2014.
