Community Radio with gender perspective

Community radio aims at improving living conditions of the population, especially of women, by improving their access to the right of communication.

Community radio aims to improve the living conditions of women in targeted areas through increasing access to the full exercise of their civil rights and freedoms, reducing the information gap between men and women and the negative image of women in the media. Women’s Community Radio provides space so that the voices and concerns of women are heard.

Participation of civil society in the Radio helps build human and economic capacities and self-reliance among women.

Information dissemination is a mechanism and a powerful way to build on awareness and improve social dialogue of the community/ grassroots, which could bridge the voice of people to be heard in society. Radio is a powerful tool to provide learning opportunities, help people make better decisions, teach skills and fill-in gap of information by sharing experience and knowledge from one place to another.

Currently, there is limited access to the media and information, especially in the rural and remote areas and women have been proved to have even less access to the information. In response to these gaps, community radios with a gender perspective aim to strengthen the capacity and awareness of community people.
